On the 4th of April 2022 EAI submitted a response to the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) consultation on the new EU Framework to decarbonise gas markets.
The Decarbonised Gas & Hydrogen Package is a fundamental part of Europe’s decarbonisation strategy, helping to deliver the objectives of Fit for 55 as well as the Hydrogen Strategy which aims for 40GW of hydrogen electrolysers to be in place by 2030. EAI members support the introduction of a regulatory framework for decarbonised gases across Member States. It is essential that the fundamental buildings blocks such as network and storage access, unbundling, certification, cross-border co-ordination, and consumer protections are put in place to help foster hydrogen and biomethane use, as well as protecting gas customers during decarbonisation.
In the letter, the EAI put forward a number of aspects of the package that merit particular consideration for Ireland.
