The Electricity Association of Ireland (EAI) has published an updated version of its position paper: Data Centres in Ireland’s Evolving Energy Landscape.
This paper builds on EAI’s previous position paper on data centres and Large Energy Users (LEUs), published in 2025, and reflects the significant policy and regulatory developments that have emerged since then. These include the CRU’s LEU Connection Policy Decision, the Government’s Large Energy User Action Plan (LEAP), and the growing focus on Green Energy Park concepts and system-led approaches to demand integration.
The updated paper outlines EAI’s position on the role of data centres within Ireland’s economy and energy transition, including their contribution to renewable investment, infrastructure development, and electricity system financing, while highlighting the importance of coordinated, plan-led policy frameworks to support security of supply, decarbonisation, and long-term competitiveness.
