Electricity Association of Ireland (EAI) welcomes decision to set a October 1st date for ‘Go-live’ of the new Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM)

The Electricity Association of Ireland (EAI) welcomes confirmation today by the Single Electricity Market Committee (SEMC) that October 1st 2018 will be the revised date for the ‘Go-live’ of the new Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) arrangements on the island. The Association agrees that additional time is necessary to ensure the stability of complex central systems and to fully trial the new market in advance of a 'Go-live'.

Dara Lynott, EAI CEO, said: “Today’s announcement by the SEMC to extend by four months the time needed to fully complete testing and deployment of stable complex central systems for I-SEM is prudent and is welcomed by our members. This decision will increase market participant confidence and facilitate delivery of their commercial and organisational systems and readiness activities.”

He added: “Our members are committed to continued constructive participation in the I-SEM project for the optimal use of energy assets, to the benefit of all consumers on the island of Ireland and a successful Go-Live on October 1st.”
